When the platform works technically, but feels difficult in practice

Many LMS problems are not purely technical. The course exists, but students cannot find the route. Teachers structure modules differently. Reports do not answer useful questions. Roles and permissions are unclear.

Canvas, ILIAS, Moodle and other LMS platforms

Qndrs works from LMS knowledge, not from one required platform. Canvas, ILIAS and Moodle each have strengths and trade-offs. The right solution depends on the organisation, the learning context, the users and the way the environment is maintained.

Canvas

Canvas is strong in modules, assignments, rubrics, feedback and integrations. The challenge is often consistent course design, teacher support and using data without creating administrative overload.

ILIAS

ILIAS offers many options for learning objects, permissions, tests and structured learning environments. That makes clear choices important.

Moodle

Moodle is flexible and widely used. That flexibility is useful, but it requires clear decisions about course structure, roles, plugins, progress and maintenance.

Standards are useful only when they solve something

SCORM, xAPI, LTI and LRS can sound technical quickly. In practice, they are agreements about content, integrations and learning data. They become useful when you know what activity, feedback or progress you want to make visible.

SCORM

SCORM is mainly known from e-learning packages that run inside an LMS. It can handle launch, completion, scores and basic progress.

xAPI

xAPI can describe learning activities beyond a single LMS. That is useful for simulations, external tools, workplace assignments or activities outside a classic course module.

LTI

LTI connects an LMS with external tools. The integration should still fit the learning route and administration model.

LRS

A Learning Record Store stores learning activity data, often from xAPI. It can be useful for analysis and reporting, but only when the purpose of the data is clear.

E-learning content must fit the learning route

A Storyline module, video, assignment or SCORM package is not an isolated object. It should fit into a learning route: what happens before it, what does the learner do with it, how is feedback given and what can the teacher or trainer see afterwards?

  • placing and testing e-learning material
  • reviewing Storyline or SCORM output
  • connecting content to assignments, feedback or reflection
  • improving module order and learning paths
  • creating practical checklists and instructions

First the learning route, then the settings

LMS work should not start with settings. First it should be clear what the learning environment needs to support. Structure, roles, content, standards and reporting follow from that.

  • inspect the current setup
  • clarify users and goals
  • review the learning route and content structure
  • identify technical bottlenecks
  • prioritise improvements
  • test from teacher, student and administrator perspectives
  • document agreements
